Outdoor camps

Alotau is known for its outdoor camps for schools. Schools and groups from other provinces attend the popular annual camps. Camps are often held between October and December.

The school hosts its own camps as well. Each year students in the middle, upper and senior grades get to camp out for a week. The out door education camps are a great way to develop skills which are necessary in life. We have experienced staff who know the local area well. Some of the activities held over the years have been:

  • Tagging turtles on the island.
  • Learning how to paddle a canoe.
  • Tying knots, building rope bridges, and trekking.
  • Learning a local language, traditional dancing & singing local songs.
  • Visiting the skull cave.
  • Deep sea fishing.
  • Visiting a hot spring and extinct volcanoes.

Children's soccer

The soccer association built over the past four years by the senior class has now been revised. It is now a whole school project and known as the ALOTAU INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SOCCER FEDERATION (AISSF). An organizing team comprising of older students under the guidance of a staff member coordinates all soccer games for the local schools and community. The students run the games and organize the grand finals. It has been a popular organization with the aim of maintaining links with the local communities.
