The Core Document

The core curriculum and its supporting curriculum statements provide a guarantee of high standards to the IEA's clients, and concise direction for school staff involved in implementing and supporting the curriculum. The extensive consultation process which underlies the production of these documents ensures a high level of curriculum ownership exists throughout IEA schools and their communities.

English Language

The English Language Curriculum has been developed as part of the ongoing review of IEA curriculum which involves the publication of curriculum documents in eight curriculum areas. The IEA approach specifies the student learning outcomes the achievement of which must be goals of teaching and learning in all IEA schools.

The English Language Curriculum focuses on the development of a wide range of student learning outcomes in the areas of Written, Oral, Visual English. It provides students with a broad understanding of how to use language effectively, and how to evaluate and react to the language use of others.

Mathematics

The Mathematics Curriculum has been developed as part of the ongoing review of the IEA curriculum which involves the publication of curriculum documents in eight curriculum areas. The IEA has adopted an outcome based approach to curriculum, specifying the student learning outcomes the achievement of which must be goals of teaching and learning in all IEA schools.

The Mathematics Curriculum focuses on providing our students with a wide range of knowledge and skills vital for survival in our personal and working lives. It stresses the importance of problem solving, learning through investigation, and logical reasoning, and builds knowledge about numbers, measurement, spatial relations and statistics.

Society and Environment

The Society and Environment Curriculum focuses on the development of a wide range of student learning outcomes drawn from the traditional disciplines of history, geography, economics, politics, and anthropology.

At the same time, the curriculum provides students with wonderful opportunities to develop their inquiry skills and to learn to work productively with others. The curriculum has been the product of extensive consultation throughout the IEA system, and reflects recent international developments in education.

Science

In Science, students learn to investigate, understand and communicate about physical, biological and technological world and value the processes that support life on our planet. Learning in Science help students become critical thinkers by encouraging them to use evidence to evaluate the use of science in society and the application of science in daily life.

The Science Curriculum focuses on the development of a wide range of student learning outcomes drawn from the traditional disciplines of chemistry, biology, geology and physics. At the same time, the curriculum provides students with wonderful opportunities to develop their inquiry skills and to learn collaboratively and productively with others.

The Arts

The Arts Curriculum focuses on providing students with aesthetic developmental experiences through the visual arts, music, dance and drama. The learning which takes place as a result of the implementation will enrich the lives of all students, serving both future vocations and leisure.

The curriculum has been the product of extensive consultation with teachers throughout the IEA system, and reflects recent international developments in education.

Technology

Technology is a vitally important part of our lives and our cultures, and this curriculum will provide opportunities for our students to learn about its diversity, its complexity, and its social implications.

The close involvement of practicing teachers in the development of this curriculum has ensured that it will be a working document which teachers will use constantly as they plan to meet the needs of the individual students within their classrooms.
